Abstract

An extensive butterfly fauna survey of district Kargil in the union territory of Ladakh was conducted. The field study was carried out from April 2019 to September 2019, May 2020 to September 2020, April 2021 to September 2021 and April 2022 to September 2022. The 23 species belonging to 17 genera of 3 families of butterflies were recorded from the area under reference. The analysis and characterisation of the butterfly fauna will provide essential information on the ecology of the area and act as a good bioindicator. It can predict the status of conservation and protection of any given area.
