Abstract

The Northern red muntjak Muntiacus vaginalis Boddaert 1785 is a small forest ruminant. This species is distributed in eastern and North-Eastern India, but in West Bengal, it is mostly reported from the protected areas of Northern Bengal. Based on camera-trap photograph evidence, we report and confirm the presence of Northern red muntjak for the first time from Purulia, Southern West Bengal, India.
