Abstract

Checklist of all known butterfly species ever recorded in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir (UT J&K) has been compiled. This checklist covers 308 species belonging to 154 genera under 14 subfamilies of 6 families. Eighteen species of butterflies are being reported for the first time from Jammu and Kashmir. A complete bibliographic reference of all known species has been incorporated by consulting all previous published literature on butterflies of Jammu & Kashmir.
