Abstract

Annina hugliensis sp. nov., an isopod belonging to the family Cirolanidae, is described from the materials collected from the muddy tidal bank of the Hugli river, at Barrackpore, West Bengal, India. The new species can be distinguished from other species of the genus Annina Budde-Lund 1908 in having a pair of distally sub-furcated dorso-lateral horns on perionite 2 of males, that reaching not more than half of the length of perionite 1; appendix masculina arising sub-medially and extending well beyond endopod of pleopod 2. The new species herein compared with all the existing species of this genus including the most similar species Annina fustis Bowman & Iliffe (1991). An identification key to all the species of the genus Annina is provided.
